The BeginWithin Center has added several groups to its existing services - individual psychotherapy, individual nutrition therapy, advanced body image and meal training, and bi-monthly support group. These groups are:

  • Adult Women’s Group – This group is for women ages 35+, who struggle with binge eating, overeating, night eating, yo-yo dieting, and/or obsessive “body bashing”. It’s emphasis is on making connections between one’s issues and food behaviors (ie: seeing the specific function of the binge), as well as skill building with food, and body image support.
  • Teen Group - This group is tailored specifically to the needs of adolescent clients with eating disorders. Group topics will include, but are not limited to DBT skills (mindfulness, distress tolerance), coping skills, body image, and cultural components of EDs. Topics will shift throughout according to the needs of the group, but pursuit of authentic recovery will remain the underlying theme.
  • Family Support Group - In addition to weekly teen groups, a bimonthly group (2x/month) will be held for teen group members' family, friends, and loved ones. Supporting a person with an eating disorder can be a challenging, sometimes frustrating, experience. Though having an eating disorder is a uniquely isolating experience, helping a loved one recover from an eating disorder is often times similarly lonely and marked by feelings of helplessness. If you have found yourself struggling to “say the right thing,” to appropriately respond in times of stress or struggle, or to differentiate between your loved one and his/her disorder, this might be a beneficial resource for you and your loved ones. Additionally, it is a means through which group members' family, friends, and loved ones can connect with each other and provide empathic support inside and outside of group.
